Good Client/Bad Client: Investment banks, customer relationship management engineers, high-speed processor manufacturers, healthcare information system managers and real estate developers may not seem like dream clients. But Art Director Michael Braley, (Braley Design, New York), has managed to design not just award-winning?but client-satisfying work for such clients. Braley believes that you can do good work for seemingly uninteresting and even cantankerous clients...it's all in the approach. Sometimes it helps to have a client that pushes you as much as you want to push them.

Michael Braley is an independent Art Director in New York City. Previous to moving to New York, Braley was a member of Cahan & Associates, San Francisco, for nine years. His work has been recognized internationally and is in the permanent collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the Museum fur Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg, Germany. His clients have included AIGA, Books For Kids, Coca-Cola, Effen Vodka, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Mohawk Fine Papers, and Tanqueray. In 2002, his annual report for Silicon Valley Bank won a Gold Clio Award. And Braley's annual report for COR Therapeutics was awarded Best of Show in the 1998 AR100 Show. His work has appeared in numerous publications and exhibitions including: British Design and Art Direction, I.D., Graphis, Communication Arts, Type Directors Club, American Center for Design 100 Show, AR100, The Art Directors Club of New York, U&lc, AIGA Communication Graphics, and Print. Braley has led design workshops and lectured at several universities and professional organizations around the nation.
