The professional association for design. Kansas City Chapter

Volunteering

Did you know that AIGA KC is run entirely by a board of dedicated member-volunteers?
Nationally, AIGA mandates that members participate directly in governance of the organization. One of the best ways to do so is by serving on your local board of directors. To date, all KC board members have been solicited by nominations or recruited after participating in events and/or serving on committees.

So how does this relate to you?
Until Monday, May 10th, AIGA KC will be soliciting nominations for new board members. By nominating yourself or another deserving AIGA member, you can directly guide the activities of our chapter!

What happens after you submit your nomination(s)?
An information session will be held for all nominees; participation is strongly encouraged. A Nominating Committee will then review and discuss nominees and recommend a slate for membership approval. Per KC chapter by-laws, the committee will take into account the professional diversity of the membership and the need to represent the interests of the entire chapter membership.

(The Nominating Committee consists of the president, past president, a member of the current board, one advisory board member and one member-at-large.)

Important things to keep in mind while considering who to nominate:
The commitment involved: by agreeing to serve on the board, one commits to serve a two-year term and to be responsible for chairing at least one program or working directly with a supervisory board member in their first year on the board. Second-year responsibilities are dependent upon the individual and open positions on the board.

Responsibilities to the local community: being a board member means one must be an ambassador for AIGA to both members and non-members. Nominees must be members in good standing of the KC Chapter to be eligible to serve.

You can nominate yourself.

This year, we are soliciting nominations for up to 13 new board members.

To nominate someone/yourself:
Submit the nominee's name, phone number, email, professional and AIGA-related experience, and the reasons why you think they/you would be a great addition to the Board.

Submit a reference or recommendation if nominating yourself.

Please email your nominations, and any questions you have about this process or board duties, no later than Monday, May 10th, 2010, to Zack Shubkagel at president@kansascity.aiga.org
